Speak to Ukrainian [white] Nationalists and they will tell you: Ukraine dates back to "Kievan Rus" in the prior millenia.
Kievan Rus (880-1240 ANNO DOMINI) was a collection of principalities in modern day Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Both Russia, Ukraine and Belarus claim Kievan Rus as their cultural ancestor. This is not related to the modern day "Ukrainian" identity beyond the fact they share a capital city, Kiev (no, not "Kyiv").
After Kievan Rus, the area of Ukraine belonged to Ulug Ulus, the Crimean Khanate, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Kingdom of Poland, Habsburg Austria, and the Russian Empire.
We first see something resembling the modern day Ukraine in 1917 when a short lived Ukrainian People's Republic was formed, separated from Russia. The socialist republic was swiftly overthrown by the Germans (may God curse their souls) and later formed into Soviet Ukraine during the foundation of the USSR.
The anti-Soviet myth of the "Holodomor," an allegedly man-made famine that took place in the Ukraine in 1931, was invented to equate the Soviet Union to Nazi Germany and to obscure the history of Ukrainian Nazism. While there undoubtably was a famine in the USSR during the time (including both Soviet Russia and Soviet Ukraine), there is no evidence this famine was man-made or targeted the Ukraine. The famines were mostly due to environmental factors including drought and crop failure. Additionally, the area of Ukraine had historically suffered famine and drought for hundreds of years well before the USSR.
“Popular media and most historians for decades have described the great famine that struck most of the USSR in the early 1930s as “man-made,” very often a “genocide” that Stalin perpetrated intentionally against Ukrainians and sometimes other national groups to destroy them as nations… This perspective, however, is wrong. The famine that took place was not limited to Ukraine or even rural areas of the USSR, it was not fundamentally or exclusively man-made, and it was far from the intention of Stalin and others in the Soviet leadership to create such as disaster. A small but growing literature relying on new archival documents and a critical approach to other sources has shown the flaws in the “genocide” or “intentionalist” interpretation of the famine and has developed an alternative interpretation,”
The "Holodomor" narative was originally created by a Brit, Gareth Jones. Before writing about the famines, Jones was in Nazi Germany; travelling with Adolf Hitler and high ranking Nazis, who he regarded favorably.

Nazi Germany occupied western Ukraine from 1941 ANNO DOMINI to 1944 ANNO DOMINI. Ukrainians (mostly in eastern Ukraine) joined the Red Army in the fight against the Germans. However, most western Ukrainians joined forces with the Nazis in their fight against the allied forces. Ukrainian Nationalists dreamt of an independent ethnostate, which the Nazis would grant them for their assistence. The Ukrainian Nationalists executed the Ukrainian Holocaust, in which upwards of 850,000 Ukrainian Jews were systematically murdered. In addition to the extermination and enslavement of countless millions of Gypsies, Communists, and uncooperative Slavs.
The prominent Ukrainian Nationalist organization, the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) was formed in 1929 ANNO DOMINI. Leading up to WWII, the OUN split into OUN-M and OUN-B, lead by one Stepan Bandera. OUN-B and Bandera pledged to work closely with Nazi Germany. The OUN-B engaged in terrorism, brutal violence, assasinations and genocide in an effort to create a homogenous white Ukrainian ethnostate. The militant arm of OUN-B, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) was formed in 1942. The UPA's first order of business was the massaccre of over 100,000 Poles, mostly women and children, in Eastern Galicia and other regions.
After WWII, the OUN-B attempts to rebrand itself away from fascism. During this time, the CIA and other western intelligence agencies financially supported the OUN-B and helped some members escape to the USA via ratlines.
Fast forward to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The OUN-B continues to exist. It births the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists (KUN) and becomes an official political party in the newly formed independent Ukrainian state (really, the first independent Ukrainian state in history besides the short-lived UPR). The OUN-B flag to-this-day is the Blood and Soil, representing an infamous Nazi slogan. Likewise, it would be tough to find a Ukrainian Nationalist organization which isn't littered with Nazi symbolism from the Totemkoph, Black Sun to the Swastika. In the Ukraine today, OUN-B and other Nazi collaberators during WWII are granted official war veteran status. Stephan Bandera is a decorated national hero of Ukraine, with massive statues of his likeness erected over western Ukraine. There are over 40 momuments to Stephan Bandera (remember? the leader of the Nazi militia which massacred millions of women, children, Jews, Poles, Gypsies?). How many momuments are there in Germany to Adolf Hitler? Zero. Modern day Germans are ashamed of the Nazi past, whilst an alarming amount of western Ukrainian civilians, politicans, and armymen, commemerate the Ukrainian Nazis.
Crimea was transfered to Ukraine SSR by Soviet Russia in the 1940s. The vast majority of people in Crimea are ethnically, culturally and lingually Russian. Hence why during the referreundum to join the Russian Federation, Crimea overwealmingly voted in favour.
It's a similar story for the Donestk and Luhansk oblasts. Recall how during the Nazi invasion of Ukraine, most western Ukrainians joined forces with the Nazis and most eastern Ukrainians joined the Red Army?
But what could have led these oblasts to leave Ukraine for Russia? In 2014, an American-backed coup d'etat removed democratically-elected Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich and installed Ukrainian Nationalist Petro Poroshenko. Under Poroshenko, Kiev systematically banned Russian-language media including blocking social media websites and forcing television channels to broadcast in Ukrainian. Due to this anti-Russian hostility from Kiev, and the fact that most citizens of Crimea, Donestk and Luhansk were already using the Russian Ruble and relying on Russia, the people of Donestk and Luhansk begged the Kremlin to allow to absorbtion of the oblasts in the Federation. This would of course not happen until the escalation of the war last year.
The Donestk and Luhansk oblasts declared independence as the Donestk and Lunhansk People's Republics (DPR/DNR, LPR/LNR). Each formed a militia to protect against invading forces from Kiev. Invading forces on Kiev's side include the explicitly neo-Nazi branch the Azov Battalion. Since the war broke out in 2014, Kiev brutually shelled the Donbas, wreacking havoic on ordinary people living their lives. Russia provided support to the DPR and LPR, but eventually had to step in itself in 2022.
Volodymyr Zelensky is a comedian who rose to fame after playing the role of the corrupt President of Ukraine on a comedic TV show called "Servant of the People" and "Servant of the People 2". He would go on to become the real life corrupt President of Ukraine!
Zelensky policies include the banning of 11 rival political parties, the nationalization and banning of the free press, the explusion of foreign journalists, the mass arrest of (civilian, peaceful) pro-Russian partisans, the destruction of Soviet momuments, the banning of place names in Russian language, and the banning of wrongthink books. A bastion of democracy! Yea right.
Ukraine has long been regarded as among the most corrupt nations in the world, ranking 123rd of 180 on Transperancy International's list. The corruption is so blatant that Ukraine's western daddy and #1 supporter (you guessed it) admits it. Even the most spooked-up, anti-communist American thinktanks and newspapers are raising concern about billions of dollars in "aid" disappearing into the hands of Ukrainian elite and friends of Zelensky, in addition to tonnes of guns, ammo, rocket launchers disappearing.
